Our practice
Based in Mornington on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, Second Nature Psychology provides a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space designed to promote safety, privacy, and a sense of sanctuary. We offer face-to-face appointments at our Mornington practice, online Telehealth sessions, or a flexible combination of both.
At Second Nature, we adhere to the ethics of the Australian Psychological Society and use a wide range of evidence-based, contemporary treatment modalities to meet the needs of each client.
We take a holistic approach that is collaborative, open-minded, and creative, guiding you through the therapeutic journey to navigate life’s challenges and reach your full potential. Therapy is tailored to your unique history, needs, and goals, exploring the many dimensions that make you who you are and supporting personal growth and resilience.
About us
Kirrily
REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST
(B.PSYCH, POST.GRAD.DIP, M.PROF PSYCH)Our founder, Kirrily Shaw, brings over seven years of experience working in the NDIS alongside private practice and individual therapy. This work has given her a deep understanding of the importance of accepting people as they are and supporting them in ways that respect their individuality.
Kirrily’s early career included school-based work, providing ADHD and Autism assessments and 1:1 counselling, which sparked her interest in how early experiences and attachment shape development. She is also particularly interested in the nervous system and the cues our body provides, using this understanding to guide therapy in a way that aligns with each person’s physiological and emotional experience.
Kirrily aims to create a safe, grounding, and emotionally responsive space where clients can explore the internal parts, histories, and stories that shape their experience. Her approach emphasizes the therapeutic alliance, helping clients reconnect with their most authentic selves.
Kirrily has a special passion for supporting school-aged students through academic, social, and developmental challenges. She believes it is critical that young people feel supported and have access to professional guidance during these formative years.
She draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), combining these evidence-based approaches to tailor therapy to each client’s needs, goals, and preferences. She believes there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, and prioritizes acceptance, understanding, and practical growth in all her work.
With experience across the lifespan and with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, family structures, relationship dynamics, sexual and gender presentations, and abilities, Kirrily now focuses on school students (Aged 6+) and adults, providing a non-judgmental space where clients can safely express themselves, feel accepted, and develop resilience in real-world contexts.
Our Mission
Empowerment
Therapy should equip clients with skills they can use in real life. We help children, teens, and families take an active role in their growth, giving them the confidence to navigate challenges outside of sessions.
Connection
We value authentic relationships, not just within the therapy room but in your everyday environment. Building trust and understanding is the cornerstone of meaningful change.
Applied Growth
We focus on growth that happens in real life. By integrating strategies into daily routines, school, and social settings, we ensure positive change extends far beyond the therapy room.
