In each session, your psychologist provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space for you or your child to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Sessions may include discussion, practical strategies, skill-building exercises, parent consultation, and, where appropriate, formal or informal assessment. The approach is always tailored to the individual needs, goals, and developmental stage of the child or young person.
Standard appointments are delivered as inclusive 70-minute sessions, comprising 50 minutes of face-to-face support and 20 minutes of non-face-to-face time for clinical documentation, planning, liaison, and other required professional tasks, in line with best practice and NDIS guidelines.
Session length may vary depending on the type of service being provided (for example, assessment, parent-only sessions, or therapy), and this will be discussed and agreed upon prior to commencement. Longer sessions are available where clinically indicated and are billed pro rata.
Provider travel is billed in accordance with NDIS pricing arrangements, where applicable.
Where requested, NDIS reports (including Functional Capacity Assessments and Plan Review Reports) are billed pro rata for assessment and report writing time, with full payment required prior to the release or submission of any reports.

Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. This allows us to offer the appointment to another client.
Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice, or non-attendance, may incur the full session fee, including where NDIS funding applies, unless exceptional circumstances are discussed.

Yes, we provide 1:1 counselling services under the NDIS and Medicare where appropriate, and some sessions may be eligible for private health insurance rebates. If you have a referral from your GP or Psychiatrist for a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you will be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate of $98.97 per individual session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
If you have Private Health Insurance that includes psychological counselling you may be eligible for a partial rebate. It is recommended that you contact your Private Health Insurer for further information. Your psychologist will discuss eligibility and payment options before commencing sessions.
Some assessments may be funded under NDIS plans, depending on individual circumstances. Medicare rebates may be available for autism and ADHD assessments with a paediatrician or psychiatrist referral (Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorders).
We accept private payment, please check with your private health insurance for any rebates that may be available. Mental Health Care Plans do not cover assessment costs.

Yes! We offer comprehensive psychological assessments for conditions including ADHD, Autism, Specific Learning Disorders, and cognitive or intellectual disabilities to children, teens, and adults.
Assessments are used to guide personalised recommendations and support strategies.
-
With your consent, we can work collaboratively with your child’s school and other professionals involved in their care (such as paediatricians, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, or support coordinators).
This may include:
Liaising with teachers or wellbeing staff to support understanding of your child’s needs
Providing practical recommendations or strategies that can be implemented at school
Contributing to Student Support Groups (SSGs), care team meetings, or case conferences
Sharing assessment findings or progress updates where appropriate
Collaboration helps ensure that strategies used at home, school, and in therapy are aligned and supportive of your child’s individual strengths and needs. Involving other professionals can also reduce pressure on families by creating a more consistent and coordinated support network around your child.
We will always discuss and agree on the level of involvement with you first, and information is only shared with your explicit consent.

Second Nature Psychology is a therapeutic psychology service. This means our role is to support the emotional wellbeing, development, and mental health of children and young people, rather than to provide opinions or reports for legal proceedings.
We are not a forensic service and therefore do not prepare court reports, Family Court reports, or forensic assessments, and we are not able to act as an advocate for or against any individual or family in legal matters.
If a child or family is involved with Child Protection or another statutory service, we can still provide therapeutic support. With your consent, this may include general communication with other professionals involved in your child’s care, such as schools or allied health providers, where it supports your child’s wellbeing.
If you require a psychologist specifically for court reports or legal assessments, we are happy to help guide you toward a service that specialises in forensic or court-related work.
